Pacifica Group’s support of FareShare helps rescue surplus food for over 12,000 meals
Pacifica Group’s ongoing support of FareShare has helped rescue enough surplus food for the equivalent of over 12,000 meals for vulnerable people across the UK.
In April 2021 we announced our newly formed partnership with FareShare, the UK’s national network of charitable food redistributors. The charity takes good quality surplus food from across the food industry and get it to almost 11,000 frontline charities and community groups.
As part of our support for FareShare, we make monthly donations which, so far, has enabled them to redistribute surplus food equating to over 12,000 meals for the most vulnerable members of society.
FareShare are now working to transition from a year in “crisis mode” to what is now the “new normal”. We’re aware that the impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic will be with us for a very long time. As unemployment and redundancies continue to rise and the government’s furlough scheme is set to end, demand for charitable food redistribution is only set to increase and we’re pleased our support can help FareShare keep up with this increased demand.
In the coming month’s (providing easing of Covid restrictions go ahead) We'll be giving colleagues the opportunity to make a direct contribution to the charity by volunteering at their local FareShare depot, with paid time off, giving them a great opportunity to support their local community and contribute to an amazing cause. Volunteers will help FareShare by carrying out a wide range of activities, including collecting, sorting and delivering quality surplus foods to thousands of frontline charities.
With the number of adults who are food insecure in Britain estimated to have quadrupled under the first Covid-19 lockdown, and households with children 50% more likely to experience food insecurity, there’s never been a better time to help fight hunger and tackle food waste. We’re very proud of our partnership with FareShare and the enthusiasm shown by Pacifica Group staff in supporting this important cause and embracing our continued ambition to contribute to the communities we serve.
